Thanksgiving is just around the corner! It is a time to celebrate and give thanks for our family and friends. To many of us, Thanksgiving means family time, pumpkin pie and football games. The last things we would like Thanksgiving to turn into is a trip to the Emergency Vet and hefty bill!
There are a lot of dishes served around the Thanksgiving table that are toxic for our pets! As your local Lansdale dog walker, I wanted to list a few foods to be careful with!
1. Bones. Cooked turkey bones can cause your canine companion to choke. Or worse yet, if they are swallowed, a turkey bone shard could puncture an internal organ!
2. Onions & Garlic. While onions and garlic are generally not served as a meal, they are often added to many dishes. Both are extremely toxic to dogs!
3. Alcohol. No pet should ever be given alcohol. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing and can even lead to death!
4. Chocolate. Any dessert or dishes containing chocolate should not be served to your pet. The darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is for pets!
In life, there are a lot of things that can get our furry friends into trouble. We try to do our best to help them avoid these hazards and Thanksgiving meal definitely comes with a few. Let’s help make this Thanksgiving a wonderful holiday for both our family and our pets to remember!
