IMG_1166If you are a pet owner that enjoys dressing up your furbabies, you’re in luck! There are so many stores and online boutiques that sell apparel for your pets! Whether you are looking for a a leather studded collar, a rhinestone leash, or sparkly bows for your pup, you will now find many options at every price range. Do our pets need these adorable accessories? Probably not, but they certainly are cute!

One apparel items your dog might actually need is a sweater. But why would my dog need a sweater, you ask? There are several factors to take into consideration.

  • Does your dog have thin, short hair?
  • Does your dog get groomed with a short-cropped cut? (Like a poodle)
  • Do you have a small or teacup breed?
  • Is your dog a senior?
  • Does your dog go on long winter walks, or spend a lot of time outdoors in the winter?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to consider purchasing your pup a sweater! Dogs with thin, short hair, or hair that is short-cropped may have trouble keeping themselves warm in cold temperatures. Small breed dogs or senior dogs might also have trouble regulating their temperature.

Or even if you are like me, and don’t like to blast the heat at your house, you may want to consider a dog sweater. We try to keep our heat around 64 degrees, but we’ll sometimes find our Pit Mix Alley shivering. We bought Alley 2 sweaters at a very reasonable price at our local pet store.

Wearing a sweater might take some getting used to at first. Not every pup will be an instant fan. Some dogs will chew their sweater, learn to take it off, or resist putting it on. To help your pup get more comfortable with the process, praise and treat when putting the sweater on!
