Although I buy most of my dog’s treats from the local pet store, I do enjoy making her some homemade treats on occasion! Unfortunately, I am not much of a cook, so many recipes call for ingredients that I never have on hand. I scoured the internet to find some dog treat recipes that use ingredients we always have around the house. My dog absolutely loves these!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup skim milk
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 2 cups whole-wheat flour
- 1 cup peanut butter
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat you oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine baking powder and the whole wheat flour. In another bowl, mix the peanut butter and milk. Add the wet mixture to the dry, and mix well.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out shapes or roll into balls. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack and store in an airtight container.
Makes about 20-30 dog treats.
You can freeze some of them for later use. Homemade dog treats will not last as long as store treats because they do not contain preservatives. You can buy fun dog-themed cookie cutter shapes at any “big box” store!
